Improve the comfort of your home by installing a programmable thermostat.

Program the thermostat for a temperature as high as is comfortable in the summer and as low as is comfortable in the winter.

Use energy efficient light bulbs in light fixtures.

Replace air filters and filters on furnaces once a month or as often as needed.

Ensure baseboard heaters, radiators, and warm-air registers are not blocked by drapes or furniture and clean them as needed.

Set your dishwasher to stop after the wash cycle and let your dishes air dry.

Turn off bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans after approximately 20 minutes.

Turn off your computer and other electronics when they are not in use.

Unplug cell phone and other chargers when you are not charging them.

Use power strips for home electronics, such as TVs, DVD players and audio systems. When you are not using the, turn the power strip off.  These electronics will still use power when they are off or in standby mode.

Lowering the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120°F can save energy use.

Use your dishwasher and clothes washer only when you have a full load.

Use appliances and products with the Energy Star label.

During cool months, keep curtains, shades and drapes on south-facing windows open during the day and closed at night.

During warm months, keep curtains, shades and drapes closed as often as possible.

Evaluate your home energy use by conducting a home Energy Audit.

Improve your home’s insulation.

Air seal your home after identifying air leakage during a comprehensive home performance assessment.

Check you air ducts for leaks.
