Not only can you lower your utility bills, improve the health and safety, and increase the value of your home with energy efficient measures, but you can get paid to do it. There are federal tax incentives up to $1,500 available through the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 available to you.

You are eligible for a federal tax credit up to 30% of project work or $1,500 if you purchase energy efficient or renewal energy products for your home. Hurry, as the federal tax credit expires December 31, 2010.

Austin Energy also offers rebates for homeowners as part of the Home Performance with Energy Star program. Rebates for homeowners provide up to 20% of the cost of a project, or $1,575, including air conditioning, attic insulation, solar screens, and caulking and weather stripping. Bonus rebates up to an additional $650 are also available if you make multiple improvements.
